Meet the Staff

James with Patricia on his back  Acting Head of Centre - James Dawkins

James has worked here since September 2006.  Previously he worked at another Centre in Surrey and before this he was a teacher at a Middle School in Norwich.  He's also been a paperboy, a go-kart racing marshal and a window cleaner!

He's married with one son, Benjamin, who was born in 2008.  Benjamin loves Burwell House's garden even more than James

James likes Orienteering, Gardening and looking after his Chickens (that's one of his on his back).  He supports Ipswich Town (they rule).

His favourite Burwell activity is Orienteering and favourite Burwell Meal is Lasagne.

Toni loves to hang upside down on her days off Tutor - Antonia (Toni) Nordan

Before coming to Burwell House Antonia worked at a Centre in woodland near London, and before that at a Centre by the sea on the Isle of Wight. Her favourite place to be is outdoors, where she loves to do activities such as walking and canoeing.

In the past she has been a competitive gymnast in Sports Acrobatics. Other jobs she has had include a job as a waitress, a bar maid and a gymnastics coach. She once delivered teeth to dentists!

Her favourite Burwell activity is The Great Eggscape and her favourite Burwell meal is Pasta Bolognaise.

Faye loves to hug trees Tutor - Faye Brickel

Faye is the newest member of the teaching team at Burwell House; as one pupil visiting Burwell House spotted, her ID badge is still quite shiny! She has lots of teaching experience, working with pupils aged from 4 -18 yr olds over the past 6 yrs. This means she loves good listening!

She has worked with cubs, scouts and explorer scouts on camping trips in the UK and abroad, visiting Ecuador, Romania and Ladakh. See if you can spot these places on a globe! She has lived, for a short time, in Finland too. You may notice her accent makes her sound a little different – she was born in Bristol on the west coast of England but moved to Norfolk (on the East coast) when still a girl!

Before teaching, Faye worked as a volunteer at London Zoo, surveyed fish and coral populations in Fiji and helped to protect the eggs of leatherback & green sea turtles in Costa Rica.

Faye loves being at Burwell House because she gets to eat fab lunches (they’re all good!) Her most memorable moment so far is standing in a cold river, which came almost to the top of her legs, so that a group could learn about meanders. Brrr!

Vicki's often seen on the TV TV Studio Tutor - Vicki Jelleyman

Vicki previously worked in a Special Needs School for 5 years before coming to Burwell House in January 2008. She loves to entertain - she loves singing, dancing, acting (and talking- ha ha!), making her the ideal candidate for taking you through your time in the TV studio.

Vicki loves music (a real 80’s chick, who was once in a pop video with Nik Kershaw – ask your teacher who he is) She also loves TV especially Dr Who (she fancies David Tennant) and the fab Torchwood.

Vicki used to be a Red Coat at Butlins, where she danced on stage every Friday night with a cheesy pop group called “Black Lace” to an awful song with a silly dance that went… “Agadoo, doo, doo, push pineapples shake the tree….”

Her favourite Burwell House food is the yummy cakes.

Sarah hard at work

In the Office

In the Office are the behind-the-scenes team, though they do venture out into the open sometimes!  Amanda and Sarah make sure your visit is organised properly.  Amanda loves Scotland and walking her puppy - Sarah loves cooking cakes and going out with her friends.  Gary is our Site Coordinator who makes sure the house and grounds are well looked after.  He loves his caravan and his pet chickens.  Maureen makes sure you are all fed and catered for properly. She loves holidays in the sun.  Wendy does all sorts of bits and bobs - including keeping the office clean and tidy - you'll see her all over the place (including possibly on her Motorbike)

The kitchen team are terribly shy In the Kitchens

Preparing your meals in the kitchen you will find our catering team.  Look out for Clare (her Yorkshire puddings rise and rise and rise), Wendy (she's everywhere!), Heather (Formula One mastermind), Lena (world champion cake-icer), Liz (pizza legend) and Lynn (queen of custard)

Whooooooooossshhhhh

Upstairs

Making sure your rooms are ready upstairs are our domestic team.  Look out for Roseen (she also makes the yummy biscuits), Wendy (she's superhuman), Lorraine (the fastest bedmaker in the East), and Annette (keep your rooms tidy or she'll have words!).  They work so fast at making beds that it's impossible to take a photo in focus.  Check out the photo on the right - it's the best we could do.

Alfie is smug In the gardens

Meet Alfie.  He doesn't live here but he loves being here more than the rest of us put together.  He'll join in activities in the garden and generally make a nuisance of himself.  Watch out for those claws - he's a bit unpredictable.

His favourite Burwell meals are bird and squirrel and his favourite Burwell activity is looking very pleased with himself
